Hot Water

There is an infinity hot water system at 166B Molesworth Street, but it is supplied with two gas bottles at the rear of the house. Gas hot water is not cheap, so please be considerate when using hot water in the house.

Running out of Hot Water

We have the two gas bottles set up so that there is no automatic switch-over between them. We do this so that we know when one bottle is empty and needs replacing, and the other bottle is always full. This avoids running into situations where there is no hot water available for a prolonged period of time. If you run out of hot water, you should follow the steps below:

  1. Find the gas bottles at the rear of the house.
  2. Identify that the currently in-use bottle is empty, by looking for the dial at the top, and ensuring that it is red, rather than green. Red indicates that there is no more gas in the bottle.
  3. Turn off the gas bottle that is empty, by turning the valve on top of the bottle to the off position. Ensure that it is screwed firmly shut.
  4. Turn the indicator switch to point to the other gas bottle. It should remain red, indicating that the other gas bottle is not presently open.
  5. Turn the valve on the other gas bottle to the on position. Ensure that it is screwed firmly open, and that the indicator at the top turns green, indicating that the bottle is now in use.
  6. Let Jonathan or Julia know that you did this, so that they may order a gas bottle replacement.
